Kware LG boss initiates plans to stop open defecation

Kware Local Government in Sokoto State said it had initiated some measures to stop open defecation by the residents of the area.
The Acting Chairman of the council, Alhaji Yahayya Kamarawa, made this known in Kware on Saturday shortly after inaugurating the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.
Kamarawa, who is the Director of Personnel Management, said: ``we want the local government to be declared open-defecation free soon and we will work diligently to ensure this feat.
``We have in this direction embarked on the massive sensitisation of the residents of the entire local government with a view to stopping the bad habit.
``In the same vein, the authorities of the local government would assist indigent residents to build their pit latrines as the problem could largely be attributed to ignorance and poverty.’’
He said the local government had concluded plans to construct new pit latrines in schools, markets, motor parks and other public places.
He expressed satisfaction with the large turnout of the people of the area during the sanitation exercise.
He commended Gov. Aminu Tambuwal for giving a blanket approval for all the 23 local governments to ensure the success of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.
``Health is wealth and we cannot be healthy if we don't keep proper personal and environmental hygiene,’’ he said.
Also, the District Head of Kware, Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar, commended the residents for coming out en masse to participate in the exercise.
